I know next to nothing about Madeline Finn, except that she’s really nice over email and that this song Whippoorwill is a really lovely piece of Americana laced melancholia.

How It Works is the first single from Old Sea Brigade’s sophomore album, out on Nettwerk next spring. Henry Brill co-wrote the song with OSB and Owen Lewis produced and mixed it (as well as the rest of the album). I’m lucky enough to have heard it and it is MEGA. And this single has a video with a cowboy in it, which is always something I can get behind.
Read MoreHenry co-wrote this with Luke track during a trip we both took to Los Angeles back in the heady days of summer 2019, before the planet went to shit. I remember it clearly, as we all went out and put in a pretty impressive pub quiz performance afterwards. California Blue is another sad boy banger from Mr Sital-Singh.
Read MoreThis song is one of those songs that hangs around and the joy now it’s out in the world is tangible. Detour is a duet between Melbourne’s Ainslie Wills and Nashville by way of Atlanta’s Old Sea Brigade and it’s a song that’s at turns both uplifting and heartbreaking. It’s very special indeed.
Read MoreAnother track out today from Babeheaven, produced and co-written by Simon Byrt, taken from their upcoming record Home For Now. In My Arms is another slice of lilting trip-hop confected in Simon’s West London shed of dreams.
Read MoreMore joy from St£fan’s long running collaboration with Manchester’s push baby. It’s pop put through St£fan’s skee-wiff filter of cassettes, 80s gadgets and other weird shit he keeps in his studio and it’s utterly joyous.
Read MoreDevon is wicked. His brand of cheeky, whip smart indie/rap/pop is a total tonic during these bizarre times. Trust Issues, his single form earlier this year is an outright banger.
Read MoreSteven was recording this exactly when covid lockdown hit Manchester, but thankfully, he and Kashmere persevered and we’ve got this amazing new single now to enjoy. Loosely inspired by Gary Numan’s masterwork, Cars, Drive is an uplifting paean to automobiles and the safety they provide.
The Overstory is a new band formed by three very special human beings; vocalist and pianist, Audrey Assad; much vaunted producer Marshall Altman on guitar; and drummer (and member of Death Cab for-bloody Cutie) Jason Gerr. Owen engineered and mixed their newest track, Calm.
Read MoreMore work from Owen with Montreal-native, The Franklin Electric. Owen provided mixing services and also co-produced this new track with Ben Cramer (Old Sea Brigade) and Jon Matte from the band.
Read MoreI’ll be honest, I know very little about Irish enigma, Vale. What I will say is that his debut effort, produced and mixed Transatlantically by Owen Lewis is a pretty epic piece of synth work. It’s cinematic and pop at the same time, channelling all the best bits of artists like John Grant and the Naked & Famous. Really excited for what’s coming next from this guy.
Read MoreHoorah! Babeheaven’s long awaited debut LP is nearly here. In the meantime, check out their new single Craziest Things, which features additional production from synthmaster general, Mr Simon Byrt.
Read MoreJon Reynolds & The Aches continue their rise through 2020 with their new single, Imogene. I’ve spoken a lot about Jon’s talents previously, but this is another smart piece of smart Americana, engineered and mixed by Owen Lewis.
Read MoreThis one’s been sat in the vaults for a minute. After working together on last year’s Woah, EP, St£fan and push baby went into the studio over Christmas 2019 to go and make a follow up EP.
Read MoreSome sun drenched gorgeousness from the duo of Marie Naffah and Simon Byrt.
Si’s produced Marie’s glorious new single, California, a sultry, golden vocalled paean to the Golden State. You can practically taste the oaky chardonnay and legal weed coming off this one.
Read MoreMore skeewiff joy from Mr Jack Garratt today, as he releases the ‘reworks’ portion of his record Love, Death and Dancing. Jack premiered the new versions last night on a live DJ set, and they’re ready to go on streaming services today.
Read MoreI’ve been a big fan of Merseyside punk/indie scuzz-merchants Bedside Manners since their single My People crossed my desk at the end of last year. It’s big, anthemic, snarling indie, and I’m 100% here for it.
Read MoreOklou is the performing moniker of French producer, songwriter and vocalist Marylou Mayniel. Recently signed to the newly formed TaP Records, she makes visceral and thoroughly modern (even futuristic) pop for fans of Charli XCX, A.G. Cook and Shygirl.
Read MoreNewcomer to the Friends Vs Music stable Phil Gornell has co-written, produced and mixed the track Left Town from the brand new EP, Gold by 80s flecked pop outfit Heart of Gold.
Read MoreNamed after the decapitated racehorse from the Godfather (explicitly not the capital city of Sudan), Khartoum are a very exciting new rock ’n’ roll band. They’ve already played Glastonbury, Electric Picnic Festival and the god damn Louvre in Paris. They’ve even had still-prancing medical marvel Mick Jagger down the front of some of their shows. I don’t really like the Rolling Stones very much, but he must surely know something to have sold that many records.
