Sametime

A week before the @greatescapefest 2024 I got an email that was not insane, had no spelling mistakes and a good song attached.

A week later, on the Friday night, @rockyoreilly and i decide to go and see Lauren off of Chvrches do her solo thing on the beach. We also drink a lot of margaritas. Lauren was ace, obviously, and after another cocktail we head back into town.⠀

En route back, we walk past the Pav Tav (which isn’t  the Pav Tav now) and I remember that the email band are playing. Because Rocky likes new bands & because I quite liked that one song and another pint, we go in.

The place is mobbed. The songs are massive. The two frontmen are stars and are playing the corner of a shit pub like it’s MSG. At one point I’m pretty sure the tall one takes out the venue’s lighting rig, but I can’t be sure as unlike the guy destroying the stage, I am short.⠀

I ask Rocky if this show is as good as I think it is,as at this point I’m quite pissed. He assures me yes.

Afterwards, I go and say hello to the one who didn’t nearly destroy the stage. He has no clue who I am, as he’d obviously sent this email to everyone. Rocky and I go to the Waggon and drink some delicious Guinness.⠀

On the way to bed, I send the band a message saying I’m leaving next morning as it’s Saturday and I live in the suburbs and am not a lunatic.⠀

We have a coffee the next day. It’s fun, and an old dude dressed entirely in camouflage and a bucket hat, who has not gone to bed falls off his chair and then tells everyone to fuck off. It’s pretty memorable for that, mostly. I tell them I don’t manage artists, but we should set some stuff up with some of my writers.

Cut to now and i manage @sametimemusic. They’ve sold out six Brighton headlines, opened an arena, picked up national radio, roadblocked a London headline and made an EP that has blown my mind.⠀

They’ve done this all without turning into arseholes, although they did once tell me they couldn’t film a video because it was too cold but i forgave them as they are literally Australian.⠀
